Enrichment Day

Head Teacher, Ms Katpitia, writes about our recent enrichment day:

At Wykeham we believe education is about developing intellectual character. In this
fast-paced society where information is available anytime, anywhere at the click of a button, it is our job as educators to provide children with the skills to think intelligently and provide strategies that provoke thought, inspire searching curiosity and promote independence.

Our Enrichment Day provided our pupils with opportunities to work with pupils from two other neighbouring schools, St. Mary's and Hylands.

Working with Matt Sage, an experience and accredited song writer, the pupils explore ideas to create their own new song and rhythm. Some of the pupils undertook a pulleys challenge where the team had to co-ordinate their efforts to move the grab over various objects, then lift these to a specific target, while another group had to work in a team to move the blocks from point "A" to point "C" without a larger block resting on a small block.  It all seemed easy but to complete this challenge with only four blocks required fifteen moves, with up to seven levels.  They even produced their very own cartoon strip!

It was a purposeful day full of engaging activities and it was a joy to watch our more able pupils work collaboratively as they embraced a number of team challenges.
